Learn to Race

Have a young swimmer who is just getting their...feet wet?  Let us help you!

The Taylor Village Tigerfish helps young swimmers get stronger and establishes a love of the sport for the next generation of athletes. The Learn to Race (LTR) program is led by our caring and experienced coaches and is designed for swimmers aged approximately 5-8 who are ready for their first summer swim team experience.  Practices are short enough to keep your child's attention, and long enough to help build their basic stroke skills (freestyle and backstroke).

Swimmers interested in LTR must try out at the official team tryouts and demonstrate the ability to swim at least half a length of the pool unassisted. Our coaches develop LTR swimmers' stroke technique and stamina throughout the season. If/when a swimmer and his/her coach agree he/she is ready, LTR swimmers do have the option of swimming in a meet, either with or without a coach in the water. If the swimmer chooses to have a coach in the water during the race, the swim will count as "exhibition" and no official time will be recorded.

The team picture is generally taken on the Saturday morning of time trials. LTR swimmers are not expected to swim in the time-trials, but they are encouraged to be in the team picture. After the picture, you are encouraged to stay and watch as much of the meet as you would like.

If you'd like more information on the Learn to Race program, and your child can swim at least half a length of the pool, please contact us.

Please remember that Learn to Race is not a substitute for beginner swim lessons.
